Bluesound Node 2i connecting with third party speakers using Wifi

Is it possible to connect the Bluesound 2i with third party speakers using Wifi?
I know this was not possible some years ago with the first iteration of the Node.

  BluOS is a closed architecture system and is only compatible with other BluOS products. Please see BluOS.net for a full list of brands that are BluOS Enabled.
