Node 2i and BIG usb sticks ?
BeantwortetOK, I've read about using small-ish USB sticks into the back of a Node 2i, but I have a library of a little under 1tb and want to put it all on a memory stick of even a M2 drive in a caddy.
Has anyone tried it and if so did it work?
I'm loathe to spend on either without knowing if it is likely to work so would really appreciate any help - thank you!
For what it is worth I'm not interested in other solutions - I have a nas but am thinking of retiring it, and anyway don't like the spin up delay when playing a playlist which contains both streamed songs and library tracks, hence wanting to have all my library available instantly. I hope that makes sense!

Hi Steve
It will work... but back when we designed BluOS 10 years ago, it was always meant as a temporary solution. I recommend connecting that USB drive to your home router or purchasing a NAS for better performance. Here's why; https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360000465747

Hi Tony,
That's really interesting, many thanks.
I may try a 1tb memory stick and plug it into my router as a network share.
The issue I have with my NAS is the spin-up time - ie when playing a playlist that consists of both streamed songs and songs from my cd library on the NAS. A streamed track first will play fine, but if the second track is from the library then unless the NAS is already fired up there is a long moments delay while it spins up.
So one more question - would a 1tb memory stick or a 1tb M2 drive be the better option? Is there any reason to choose one over the other aside from cost?
Again, many thanks for your help!

The only catch Mark didn't mention in the other thread - the USB only provides 1.0A of power... you may need a USB drive with a separate power supply if the larger drive does not spin up. Other than that, storage is storage...

Thank you again Tony. I'm looking at a 1tb M2 drive which seems to be within the 1amp limit, but if not a powered caddy will be on the list.
I'm amazed by the speed and helpfulness of the replies here - says a lot to me.
