If you want to hear stereo sources as surround, you'll need to enable the "Stereo surround" option in BluOS app settings. Did you enable that?

Yeah I have discovered this since adding the post.

I have noticed though enabling this seems to have adverse effects on usb c sources and ATV, if I play a track from phone or mac I get really choppy audio via usb c.   I also get choppy audio from apple tv when it is enabled if I dont set the main audio from auto to dd 5.1 on atv.

I will let support know this choppy audio issue, I can live with this more than the lack of centre channel for dolby surround sources in the short term.

Personally I keep this 'Stereo surround' setting off. It makes no sense to me to simulate a surround sound out of a perfectly fine stereo track. It does not sound good at all to me, especially for music which is mixed stereo. I.m.o. let stereo be stereo, and surround be surround, as intended.

For music I agree, happy to let it just come through left and right.

But for some tv viewing that might be sent out as dolby surround not DD5.1 the centre speaker seems to get bypassed without it enabled.

'Dolby Surround' is the name of an upmixing processing feature of an AV Receiver. Like the 'Stereo surround' option on the N331. It's not a specific audiostream with a channel layout, like DD5.1

Maybe I'm not understanding correctly what you're saying.

You should probably use an Hdmi cable for dolby sound.
