Why not Tidal’s Passthrough MQA in BluOS?

I have read a past post by Bluesound product support manager stating “The Bluesound Powernode/POWERNODE 2 and all models of the PULSE line up are MQA Full Decoders.” But also I read in a more “recent” post: “the BluOS app will handle the first decoding stage which will process the MQA file to 24-bit/96KHz audio.”

If, say, the Pulse 2i is a full MQA decoder, why would the BluOS app perform the first MQA unfold (MQA core decoding) from Tidal MQA stream and have the internal DAC of the Pulse 2i perform only the remaining unfolds (MQA rendering) rather than take advantage of Tidal’s Passthrough MQA setting, bypass first unfold in BluOS, and let the Pulse 2i internal DAC do all three unfolds itself when outputting Tidal MQA audio through the Pulse 2i’s built-in speakers?

  Hi Stephen

  All processing does happen in the PULSE 2i. The BluOS App has zero processing power and is simply a remote control regardless of platform.
