Any experience with Ubiquity Unifi?
BeantwortetHi All,
My home network is working well but I'm considering updating my ageing router with a Unifi UDM. While I'm at it, my TPLink unmanaged switches would be updated to unifi equivalents and my wireless network ( presently two basic routers running in cabled AP mode using DDWRT) updated to the UDM and two more Unifi APs to fill out some low signal areas.
Given that my six Bluesound/NAD devices are the most sensitive on the network, I thought I'd ask whether anyone here has experience good or bad using Unifi equipment with Bluesound? It would appear that Unifi give a lot of control over network settings and therefore I should be able to set them as required with regard to multicast and IGMP and all that. I might even be able to have the BS devices on a separate VLAN, anyone done that?
Input welcome.
Thanks

Hi Stelvio
Our Quality Assurance Team are big fans of Ubiquiti and uses it in their lab. It won't solve VLANs though because multicast does not route through VLANs.

Thanks Tony! That's about the best answer possible. Using the same networking gear as the testing team has got to make life easier if I'm having issues. They'll be familiar with the gear and the settings required to make it play nice.
Any input from users in the wild would also be welcome. Ubiquity seems to slot neatly between consumer level and proper enterprise.

Hi Stelvio,
FYI - I'm using Ubiquiti Unifi equipment (USG, 8 and 16-port USW Lite PoE switches, Unifi AP's) and it works with my NAD C368 with MDC BluOS 2i. I run UTP cables to key devices, such as the NAD (±15m). All in the same VLAN.
I did have one or two hiccups initially, but believe this was down to cabling: the 16-port USW in particular seems sensitive to proper cabling/connectors.
The BluOS 2i module connects at 100Mbps 'only', and I suspect it is not 10/100/1000Base-T. I could not find out from the specs. Not that it needs more bandwidth, but does anyone know if it should support a 1000Base-T connection?

A belated thanks for the confirmation JosBaz.
I've proceeded with the Unifi purchase and should be receiving it in the coming days. Is there anything specific I should enable/disable/etc when setting it up to best suit the Bluesound gear? From the limited settings on my old router I recall that multicast = on and IGMP snooping = off but that was it.
In between time I had installed a GLiNet Slade Slade router and it worked perfectly out of the box, no issues with the Bluesound gear at all. The rest of my network including switches and APs did not change though. I set static IP's for the BS devices but they also worked fine before that.
