Is my Node 2 dead?
BeantwortetOur Node is stuck with the red led on. It was/is configured for ethernet, not wifi. When I do the procedure below, nothing changes - I do not get a momentary green light, the led does not blink after 30 seconds, it simply stays red. Have powered it off and on a number of times with no change.
.Any thoughts? It was not running an upgrade at the time, nor was one scheduled. I had left it unplugged for about ten days while away, came home, powered it on, and now just the red LED and no response. Thank you|!
Again, all this has already been done with no result:
"Disconnect the player from electrical power.
If you have a PULSE FLEX with a BP100 Battery Pack, disconnect the battery pack as well.
Wait 10 seconds.
Reconnect the power.
Once the LED turns Red, touch and hold the Play/Pause LED on the touch panel (It will immediately turn Green and then back to Red) - do not let go of the LED.
Once the LED turns back to Red, continue to hold the button for 30 seconds.
After 30 seconds, the LED will begin to blink red – then release the button.
All customization to the Bluesound player will be removed and restored to factory settings.
IMPORTANT: Removing your finger from the LED at any time before the LED begins flashing red will cancel the factory reset and leave the player in Upgrade Mode. Just start the steps again to factory reset the player."

Sorry Robert, this is a very well known issue. The "support" crew isn't allowed to talk about it here and will only tell you they'll be in touch.
You most likely have encountered the "Red LED Of Death". The power supply in the Node 2 is of extremely poor quality. It contains very cheap Chinese capacitors that will fail in a matter of only a few years.
If you are living in the US you'll might get some compensation if you are lucky. If you are in Europe you probably are screwed. Will cost you more than 100 Euro to have it repaired unless you know someone that is handy with a soldering iron.
If you search this forum you will find (amongst other topics like this) https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360038391473-Continous-red-light-on-Node2

JanF, thank you. being an engineer myself I have been pretty sure since the failure happened that this was a hardwaRE issue. The Bluesound folks have since responded to my ticket and suggested that I check the optical connection light, which I will do, but the unit is completely unresponsive and I have since replaced it with a new Node 2i - same location, same cables, same switch, same router, and the Node 2i works fine, so clearly it's not a network issue. So as I said... I am pretty certain it's suffered a hardware failure. It was just about exactly 4 years old fwiw. Yeah cheap caps will do it. I am away at the moment but in principle I can switch them myself when I get home.

I have a Node 2 that failed last week. I tried all the reset procedure(hold the play button) and the firmware update with the usb stick. It did not work, it was basically dead.
I found a detailed procedure to change 2 capacitors in the power supply and it ressucitated my machine! It is a 3 dollars fix! Took me half a hour. I salvaged old caps from scrap radios to test if it would work, the electronic stores are closed on sunday!! I will order new caps and redo all the power supply. Here is the link to the repair details.
