Permission Denied in Big Sur
BeantwortetNot sure if anyone has this issue since the Big Sur update. I can mount a folder and index the music, and the whole thing works. However, after a rest period of 8-12 hours, permission to access my folder gets denied and I have to restart the whole process of mounting and indexing, or reboot my Mac! I try a different route by granting permission through Finder but it doesn't work either. Is there a cure for that? Thanks.

I gotta say, this is pretty bad. I appreciate that another user was able to list the hoops you have to jump through just to get BluOS to work on a Mac, but I really don't understand why this didn't come from the Bluesound team.
I have enjoyed Bluesound over the past 6 years, but the fact that they never found a way to automatically update the library when a new album is added the way EVERY other app I own does (JRiver, for example), the fact that artwork has to be under 600kb for it to be displayed (which is not the case for EVERY other app I own), and the fact that they have to rely on a user to post a workaround in order to get it work properly with a Mac, means I'm finally out.
Good luck with the product in the future, but I'll be listening elsewhere.

I'm not able to get his recommendation settings to work.
When setting up permissions for this new read only user, do you guys under advance options select:
Allow guest users?
Only allow SMB encrypted connections?

I just got off a long over 2 hour phone call with Apple support because I was never and still not able to share a folder with this new user dummy account. So they worked with me and found what "may" work for me with using Daniels method but with a little change.
I had to move my music library to a "Shared" folder on the main user account. I'll give it a try for a few days to see if it works.
Also, they said the is NO REASON why Bluesound couldn't get their developers on the phone with Apple's Tech support to figure out why its happening as they will help Bluesound figure it out.
Apple said that they read other devices/software (not just Bluesound) is having these SMB/Samba issues. But they will help if they'd just reach out.

Sad to see that it's still not working for many of you. I managed to make it work 6 months ago using the "Network Share" as opposed to the "Local Share" functionality in the "Settings" menu of the BluOS desktop app to connect my library. I have had no connectivity issue since then.

Glad to hear its worked for you and mine was originally setup that way manually entering the file path versus the wizard but as you can see its stopped working.
I'm willing to try this method again versus Daniel W. since I can't get my dummy test user account to be able to access my shared music folder despite following his directions. I even gave the instructions to Apple last night when I was on the phone and screen sharing support with them and they said it was done right by his directions but I still could not access my shared music folder.
So this is when then recommended I place my music folder within the shared folder when you GO>Connect To Folder> type in /Users/Shared and that is the folder I will need to move my music folder to.
I'd rather leave it where its at as I have other apps connecting to that music folder and would like to revisit the manually entering of the music folder as mentioned by Eric and suggested earlier by BluOS support. Whenever I've needed help with this they've always had me manually enter the file path but for some reason it didn't stick.

Instead of doing what Apple mentioned I decided to revisit the "manually" adding the file path to my music and also entering in the username and password within he Bluesound app. Can anyone tell me if entering in the username and password is not advisable or it perfectly fine?
So far after a day it's been working fine. I'll continue to see how it goes. Hopefully this does it. But it also works fine for about 1-2 days before I start getting an invalid argument error code.Another observation is I also have several Sonos devices connected to the same music folder and when Big Sur came out not even a hiccup with the same music library...this is just a observation that I that might also be thought about.

Yeah, same here. Sonos works and Bluesound doesn't. I've been in touch with Bluesound for more than a week now, and it's been completely unavailing. Do they have no software developers over there? Do they simply not care? Sonos is the giant and Bluesound is the little guy, but the (distant No. 2) is acting like it doesn't have to care. I wish I'd never bought a Bluesound product. Because I want to listen to music, not futz with my Mac.

I tried doing chmod 777 on Music and added Music and Local Share and that worked. However it did not import all my playlists.
Its sad that I love Apple Music convenience and BlueSound, but Apple does not play ball like other music providers

I recently came upon this thread when I was having the same issue setting up a network share on my new Node 3rd Generation. To recap, I set up a network share on the BluOS controller app for MacOS, using the 'add local folder' wizard to then create the network share. As many have indicated right here, that worked for about 3-5 hours, but then i would get the permissions error. Tried multiple things and was having the same issue persist every 3-5 hours. I finally was able to correct it using manual entry of the share path, but not until after I cleared/tweaked some OS share settings. I've been set up this way for over a week and have not run into any permissions/sharing issues ever since.
Here are the steps I took, hope it helps anyone still having trouble. I'm on MacOS Big Sur 11.5.2.
Steps to resolve:
- In the BluOS Controller app for macOS remove any existing local shares or network shares.
- Go to System Preference > Sharing and make sure 'File Sharing' is checked on left. If selected, and you already see your music folder(s) listed under Shared Folders, remove them.
- In that same menu, click the "+" to add your share folder location manually, and make sure all users have permissions to access it. Once done, you can exit System Preferences.
- Now, go back to the BluOS Controller and add the Network Share. You will need to add it Manually.
- Enter the share location per the format advised within the BluOS app. Again, this is only the computer name and the folder share name (not the entire path to this folder). As an example, mine looks like this: \\Johns-iMac\Music Library
- Within the same screen where you enter your share name, also enter your computer's username and password and hit save.
- If you followed these steps than the BluOS controller should successfully add the Network share and begin indexing the folder.
I took these steps at least a week ago and have not had a single permissions issue since then. Hope this helps for anyone still having lingering issues. Not the ideal solve obviously, but I'm happy with it for now to avoid the annoyance of frequently losing access.

Hi,
I followed all the suggested workaround and I'm not able to have BluOS to connect to my network share. As opposed to others, it does not work at all.
Useful versions:
- Big Sur: 11.6.1
- MacOS App: 3.16.1
- BluOS: 3.16.3
On my Mac, the share seems corrected configured as indicated by the command-line:
bob@NitroMBP ~ % sharing -l
List of Share Points
name: Hi-Res-Audio
path: /Users/bob/Documents/Hi-Res-Audio
smb: {
name: Hi-Res-Audio
shared: 1
guest access: 1
read-only: 0
sealed: 0
}
In BluOS, the auto-detect of network shares does not find anything so after I enter manually this three values:
- Share name: \\NITROMBP\Hi-Res-Audio
- Username: bob
- Password: bob password
I'm looking for support from the Bluesound team please.

I continued my troubleshooting (by myself) and I was able to add the network share.

Executive summary: you need to add specific SMB configuration in your MacOS box:

Additional update: once this file was updated (or created in my case because it was not present on my system), and the Network Share functional in BluOS functional, I removed the file and everything continue working.
