Powernode 2i connection to PC
Hello,
I am trying to decide between a Powernode 2i and NAD D3045 for my office. I realize that the Powernode 2i is also a streamer whereas the NAD D3045 always requires a separate source (in this case the PC). Therefore I am leaning towards the Powernode 2i although the device would still be connected to my PC.
I have the following questions which I hope you can answer.
- In the past I had a lip sync issue connecting a Node 2 to a TV using the optical connection. The NAD D3045 can also be connected via (asynchrone) USB. Would the USB connection prevent possible issues with connection to a PC such as lip sync issues?
- Is it possible to connect the Powernode 2i via HDMI to an HDMI port on the PC (GPU) or should it always be connected via optical?
- Are there any (other) reasons why the NAD D3045 would be better suited for connection to a PC?
Many thanks for your help.

Yes you can connect a POWERNODE via HDMI to a PC IF your PC supports ARC over HDMI. IN doing this the only advantage you get is if you are using your PC as an alternative to a TV for Video streaming.
If it is for audio playback, there are much better solutions in Bluesound to connect to music stored on your PC.
As for the issues you have seen with lipsync and a NODE... ? were you grouping the NODE to other players?

Thank you for your response.
I asked about HDMI to have an alternative input to the optical one should that cause issues. I understand now that this should have no benefit in my situation.
To further clarify: I am not connecting the Powernode to the PC for music playback. That will be done directly using the Bluesound app (which I am familiar with). The PC connection is to use the Powernode as a PC speaker system for games, videos, etc.
My Node 2 was not grouped to other players when I had the lip sync issues. Further, the issues were immediately resolved when I bought a new stereo amplifier and connected the TV directly to the optical input of the amplifier (my old amplifier did not have a DAC/optical input). Now I only use the COAX output of the Node 2, which I am very happy with.
I did just test the Node 2 optical input on my PC and it appears to work fine with no lip sync issues. So I presume the Powernode 2i optical input should also work fine for connection to my PC and that the earlier issues were perhaps caused by the specific combination of my TV with the Node 2.

My assumption as well. Glad to hear you figured it out.
