Output level fixed?

I have a Node 2i and in the audio settings the option is pre-set as Output level fixed. What is this and what would happen if I unfixed it? I am using the coax digital out to dac to integrated amplifier.  Thanks in advance.

  Hello Stuart,
  
  With Output Level set to Fixed, your Node 2i will output at maximum volume at all times. This is useful when you would like to control your volume solely from your external equipment and not from the BluOS app. With Output Level set to Variable, you are able to control the volume of your Node 2i wirelessly from the BluOS application.

  when i use variable it can vulnerable the sound ?
