Measuring signal strength while music is playing only?

Perhaps a silly question, but when measuring signal strength using the "Diagnostics" button in the app, does it make a difference if the player in question is actually active and playing music, as opposed to not playing anything and "idle"? I am asking as I have had dramatically different results when measuring signal strength - finding much better values when listening to music, but not sure if this is a coincidence or due to another factor?

  Mostly coincidence but slightly explained due to throughput and the ports are active...
