Music Services: add Apple Music?
BeantwortetHi,
Just thought, let's drop the question again.
Does Bluesound expect (short term) to add Apple Music as a "Music Service" in the Node 2i?
NOT via Airplay2, but as a Music Service in the Node 2i.
Thanks!
Danny

Thanks Tom - I think it's important to keep the pressure on so that it doesn't just fade away. Have a good day

Question as nobody commented on my earlier input regarding my car:
Does anybody know the technology behind the new Infotainment system MIB3 in VAG Cars (VW, Cupra, Audi, Seat etc.), and the ability to stream Apple Music (and Tidal) as a built-in service?
In my car, I can login to Apple Music and then stream via 4G/5G - both via the built-in eSim, or if I share the internet connection on my phone.
But I don´t know the technical data behind, as how high the quality goes; is it up to Hi-Res or....?
The log-in to Apple Music as a built-in service is nevertheless a possibility on several car brands....

CarPlay is just a front end "remote control" for the app on your phone. This is not the same as what Bluesound would need, which is the ability to stream directly from the Apple Music servers without the phone anywhere in the chain.

I¨m NOT talking about CarPlay at all ;-)
MIB3 has the ability, even without any phone paired, to access FM, DAB+ AND Internet, and in the Internet section, you can input your username and password for Tidal or Apple Music, and then you´re streaming directly to the Infotainment system (Tidal and Apple Music as two built-in Services).
And if you don't have a data plan for the cars built-in eSim, you may use your phone as hotspot; thats why I mentioned the phone. You may also connect to CarPlay simultaneously - but that´s beside this point....
So this is EXACTLY, what Bluesound could/should investigate in my opinion !

Tony, I see that the Node 2i is now selling for $100 off, and there is a new product simply called "Node" that is about to ship. Will this enable Apple Music subscribers who want to take advantage of what Apple calls "Hi-Resolution Lossless?"
Now that Apple is streaming in lossless, I want to add a streaming device to my 2.1 speaker system powered by an integrated amplifier, but I don't want to buy a device that won't take advantage of everything available from Apple. Is the new "Node" that device? Thank you.

We try to avoid as much as possible to have Music Service integration be hardware dependant but there have been some limitations due to hardware before.
Due to limitations of certain Apple Products, currently, the only way to get Apple Lossless to your Bluesound Player is via AirPlay from a MacBook. This means, today, your NODE 2i will support it to the same extent as the new NODE N130.
When a BluOS Player is selected directly from the list of Airplay compatible devices in the Apple Music app, lossless audio is converted to AAC at 256 kbps. As a workaround, when the system-wide audio output on a Mac is set to a BluOS Player, the AirPlay Content is sent up to 16 bit 44.KHz using ALAC or Apple Lossless.
To change the system-wide audio output in Mac, perform the following steps on your Mac:
- Select Control Center in the menu bar.
- Select the Airplay icon under Sound.
- Select the required BluOS speaker.
- Open the Apple Music app, select the Airplay icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Computer ––> (BluOS Speaker).
Alternatively, to change the audio output on the Mac – click here.
The Apple Music app will now stream bit-perfect lossless audio to the BluOS Player.

David Toone - in short, the answer the is "no". The available selection of lossless streaming with Nodes does not and looks like will not include Apple Music - I've abandoned the quest and now use Qobuz for true lossless and integrated streaming. In terms of streaming owned content, the best option by far is to connect your Node to a NAS drive on the network.

Tony W., if I understand you correctly you are saying that it is not possible to AirPlay 2 Apple Music Lossless, from an iPhone to a BluOS device, in my case. I own both a NAD M10 and Node 2i, in 24/48 and only a MacBook will work. I understood that Airplay 2 supports at least up to 24/48. Is this an apple iOS limitation or BluOS limitation. I have heard claims that folks have used AirPlay 2 to stream 24/48 from their iPhone Apple Music app to their HomePods.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Is it possible to save the songs from Apple Music locally on MacBook Pro, and play them on Blue sound via Local Share?
Regards
V

Stephen - this is a current limitation of Apple that many AirPlay endpoint Speakers are facing right now.
Venkat - you will have to check with Apple about downloading to your local MacBook but yes you can create a Local Library. Here's how; https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360000197008

Tony - Your support helped me to mount Local Library. The Network Share ( WD MyCloud ) stopped working after the Mac OS upgrade. The Local Share does not work perfectly after the Mac OS 11.4(Big Sur ) upgrade. Recursive chmod 777 , did not help.
There must be some passionate Mac users engineers in BlueSound or forums, who may have explored saving the Apple music files and then play on BlueSound from the Local Share? Does my question make sense? Any pointers would be appreciated
PS: My family and me find Apple Music found more songs and we tend to enjoy music more on Apple than Spotify or AmazonHD. CarPlay iPhones simply makes Apple music more appealing. In the end had to make a decision and went with Apple Music :)

Hi Venkat
I have escalated your issue to our Support Crew. They will be in touch.

FWIW both Qobuz and Deezer are CarPlay compatible so either might be a better option for people who want a lossless service that plays nicely with both their car and their Node.

Tidal, which I have, also works with CarPlay, though I do share the wish to have Apple Music as a music service within BlueOS.
Many of my Bluesound devices are pre-Airplay compatibility, are scattered throughout the house and cannot be paired with a 2i or later unit. Cost, compatibility with other devices and convenience are some of the reasons I'd like Apple Music. We need to lobby Apple for this change, Bluesound have already indicated they are more than willing to implement it were Apple to permit it.

Tony,
I spoke to Apple Music Support and opened a case.

Tony - The link below has a workaround to achieve 24/192 using an iPad and a DAC. My question is if I can do that using my Bluesound Powernode 2i?

Thanks

Is there some reasonable way to listen to Apple Music in 24/192? Apple says they have it. Is there some way to listen to it without employing some off-the-map workaround?
It's hard to believe that Apple would go to the bother of streaming lossless music files if the primary means of delivering the music to actual speakers is to down convert it to 256k through Airplay 2. Oh, I can get lossless through my iPhone by using wired headphones, except Apple took away the headphone jack years ago and told me I'd be better off going wireless.
I guess I'm getting lossless through my Apple TV, but I'm not even sure about that. And the TV sound bar isn't really where I want to do music listening.

David,
This article and brief video from John Darko will explain how to get Hi-Res music from a iPhone or iPad.

Apple released Apple Music API in MusicKit recently. Hopefully this allows BluOS to play Apple Music soon... and hopefully hi-res lossless.

Today I cancelled Apple Music subscription. It's a pity, I prefer it, I also found a few tracks with 32bit (not sure if it's a typo - you can check it for yourself - the song is Populism Dystopia by Don Grusin & Filippo Gaetani), which I cannot recall seeing on Tidal. But, despite Tidal being double the price - peace of mind. The day Apple introduces something along the lines of "Apple Connect" or some form of wireless streaming with similar capabilities as UPnP I will be first in line (i.e. UPnP can stream 24bit/192kHz - it can also do native DSD but I don't think this will be necessary for a streaming service). For those with iPhones and iPads, who don't mind USB cables, or who prefer and have invested in headphones - Apple Music will work best for them in it's current form. For everyone else, it just comes a little short - I think android phones with 192kHz capability may work the same as iPhones (my android phone doesn't resample to 48kHz when playing Apple lossless - but it is native 48kHz so anything above 48kHz doesn't have sound - this is good news for those who were worried their phones will resample - but - perhaps different phones will handle this differently with Android being so fragmented). Besides - I have a feeling MQA will die a peaceful death with the new pricing structure announced by Tidal in Australia - probably to react to Qobuz launching there.

This statement by Tony W. "We try to avoid as much as possible to have Music Service integration..." sounds weird. Isn't the problem that they CAN'T do this for whatever reason?
As I watch how they proceed with the (missing) firmware updates on the new Node which has a lot of bugs, I'm almost convinced that they have problems with the coders.
0 -
WOAH! - That's a Typo - thanks for catching - I have corrected it but it should read
"We try to avoid as much as possible to have Music Service integration BE hardware dependant but there have been some limitations due to hardware before."
I am really sorry for the confusion0 -
OK, but on N130 you promote a much more powerful processor compared to 2i, not something new, but still with more processing power!?
0 -
Node - the two products have different hardware but run the same services. Hence Tony's statement that by design, they try to make services not hardware dependent.
0 -
Not hardware dependent?
The 2i had the Cortex A9 (32bit architecture) and was replaced with A53 (64bit architecture) - this is already a veteran model, initially introduced in 2012. Probably the A9 isn't available anymore, so the change and Bluesound pushed a "new mode" with a fancy (and buggy) touch display and old 32bit firmware to resurrect the sales.
Many serious companies launches "end of the line" firmware for deprecated models an continue to further develop the firmware for the current production models.
Whats is doing Bluesound is much, much cheaper which will have a long time effect, pissed off customers wont buy their products.
And the login here with Cross Site Tracking Prevention enabled is still not possible.
Additional incomes Bluesound?

Node - you're getting carried away, mate. If you don't want a Bluesound device that's fine - however, you don't speak for most customers who are absolutely going to carry on happily buying their products. Apple Music not being fully integrated is a bit annoying, that's all - it's not a heart transplant or clean water, you need to calm down and gain some perspective. Also, cursing on a forum is just childish and disrespectful.

I totally agree with Richard Thomas.
When the missing "BE" was discovered and added, the Tony W. post gave full meaning again.
This section or thread is about the missing Apple Music as an integrated service, and we are some, who calmly but persistently pushes both Bluesound AND Apple to get the best streaming quality possible - without ugly and/or expensive hardware attachments.
1 -
Dear Richard Thomas, you say "If you don't want a Bluesound device that's fine"
I say that, unfortunately I already purchased a Node 130, which is defect. I would like to have my money back or an fully functional device. Bluesound said that it is a hardware manufacturing problem and has to be replaced. I got a ticket number [Incident #6196]. Suddenly somebody started to speculate about open windows and/or foliage. No foliage in the room where the device is and the malfunction is permanent regardless of open and closed windows.
The device is for almost two weeks at the country distributor and they are waiting for Bluesound, I'm waiting too.... so do you wonder that I get carried away, mate?
-1 -
Node - What has any of that got to do with a thread about Apple Music?
Sorry to hear that you have a (potentially) defective device, but electronic devices do sometimes develop faults, and that is what customer service is for. It looks like that is already in progress, so not entirely sure what you hope to achieve by throwing your toys out of the pram on a completely unrelated topic - in my experience sending rude or inflammatory messages to a company is a way to ensure you get dealt with ... last.

Please, show me in this thread, were I was rude!
