Wi-Fi streaming options without external streaming service

If I want to Wi-Fi stream from Mac OS / Mac Mini to Bluesound2 using Hi-Res audio files (NOT an external stream service like Tidal) - what option are available besides Itunes/Airplay ?

Whatever option are available for Wi-Fi streaming - what is the best sound quality possible in Wi-Fi streaming compared to accessing the library directly (SMB mount from Bluesound2) ?

Or maybe - streaming from Wi-Fi does not by itself limit the quality of the sound (no limits imposed by the Wi-FI transport such as Airplay/2 ) -  other then the listening experience if the Wi-Fi network causes cut outs
