Track Sorting Wrong after Rebuild/Reindex
BeantwortetHi, I've read all the appropriate guides but can't find a direct answer as to why my library playlists do not match the track order exported in an .m3u. I use iTunes on a Mac to edit the id3 tags and everything is correct in the associated iTunes playlist and the exported m3u.
Can anyone advise as to why Blusound does not maintain the running order (which is alphabetically ordered by Artist)?
It appears to add new tracks to the end of the library playlist rather than where they should be alphabetically (matching the m3u).
Thanks, Julian

Hi Julian
The issue you are having is with your M3U playlist metadata - not the music. M3U playlists play based on the order they are added to the list, not alphabetically, unless of course, they happened to be added that way. In whatever you made your Playlist in, check the sort order of that...

As an afterthought - does it make any difference if the 'album artist' field is completed or not? Some of my tracks have this field completed and some are blank. Additionally, these are iTunes smart playlists. Thanks.

Hi Tony, thanks for coming back so promptly. This is where I probably come across as non-technical! I use Doug's Apple Scripts to export my playlist to m3u (extended m3u playlist). If I open the m3u in TextEdit (on the mac) then it shows in alphabetical order hence my confusion. Are you suggesting that the text data represented in the m3u may be different from the metadata?
If it helps, I've attached screenshots of my m3u and how it is represented in the BluOS app. The m3u image is the last few songs of my playlist and is displayed in correct alphabetical order. The corresponding end of the playlist in the app is showing as you mentioned - in the order they were added.
Any advice or further clarification gratefully received.
Thanks, Julian

Hi Julian
I am saying I am not sure how they were sorted alphabetically in the first place (a question for Doug Adams perhaps...).
See the number after EXTINF - Trash by Suede is song 247 in the Playlist, Smile by The Supernaturals is song 234, That's not my Name 311... this is the number representing when they will be played in the playlist.

Aah, I thought the number (having searched around) was the song length in seconds. Let me double-check if that's what Doug's Apple Scripts defines it as. I did do a quick review of the m3u and these numbers and they don't appear to be the running order either.

WAIT - Sorry BrainCramp - you're right I'm wrong...
I am escalating this issue to our support crew. I cannot explain what order they are in but they are playing in the correct order, which is the order the were added...

Hi Tony, you are right. I exported the playlist using Doug's Apple Scripts and using the export playlist in iTunes. Doug's are showing as per the last song added to playlist and iTunes is showing alphabetically. I'll recreate my playlists and rebuild the app and see if it corrects. Thanks for the pointer.

Phew - Glad to help - I will cancel the escalation request I just opened for you... If it is still an issue, please select Help, Send Support Request and our Support Crew will be in touch...

All solved. I'll use the iTunes 'export playlist' moving forward as this does create the m3u in line with how I've sorted the playlist in iTunes (ie; alphabetically by Artist). Thanks for the great support.
