Volume difference

Hello,

 

Today I tested my Bluesound Node 2 player, a Raspberry pi with Volumio with Allo DigiOne spdif output and a Windows PC with JRiver and Topping D10 DAC as USB spdif converter.

 

Why does the Node 2 player  plays around 3 dB louder?

Does the Node 2 shifts bits in the spdif?

I compare the systems by a remote spdif switch, due  to the output difference this is very difficult to judge for the Node 2.

I am very curious how this is possible.

  We don't up sample, we don't down sample and we don't volume shift unless you enable tone controls. Enabling Tone controls will have a 6db shift but that is down in volume to ensure head room to bring up treble or bass...

  I cannot explain the results you are getting - but as always, let your ears decide.
