BBC Sounds
BeantwortetThe BBC have just launched a new service called Sounds which is the Radio station analogue to the Catch up I player service for TV
At the moment I am streaming it via my laptop and Bluetooth to my Node 2 and quality is good but could be improved. (FYI it should be accessible anywhere via VPN )
Are there any plans to make it a built-in Music source and if not why not ..

Me too, like Ray and Alan. Very disappointed. Here we go again.
I make a point of warning friends to avoid Bluesound because of this recurring issue and the continued stunning silence from Bluesound.

I've just discovered I can add Radio 4 (and others) as a custom station on TuneIn which helps a bit. Here's a link to all the BBC stations: https://garfnet.org.uk/cms/tables/radio-frequencies/internet-radio-player/bbc-national-and-local-radio-hls-streams/
You can copy the URL and add it as a custom station in TuneIn. I've just tested it and it works. No idea why BluOs can't sort it out, although the web page I found does say BBC changes the streaming URLs a lot...but it was working fine for at least 3 years!

This has also happened overnight to TuneIn on Wiim and HEOS (Denon/Marantz) devices. My advice would to contact TuneIn support.

Is this a location issue, I have just streamed Radio 2 via Tunein. (Australia)?

Alan Shepherd, thanks very much! Got it working for 5Live. Happy bunny again! 😁👏
Bluesound need to link to that site to make it easy for their customers.

I think the problem here is the reliance on TuneIn, a US company, for UK radio streams. TuneIn have had issues multiple times over the years with BBC streams, and probably others that most of us here are not aware of. Other audio system manufacturers have bought in and/or developed radio streaming platforms that are more reliable and avoid the commercial imperatives of TuneIn. BluOS should aim high and do something similar for Europe, if not beyond.

Funny that this posts which started more than 2 years ago was about the integration of BBC sounds, when now we can't even get BBC radios working properly altogether! The drop of connection is not because of location, it is down as well within the UK.
I recommended last year Bluesound speakers to my brother living in France, and I had as well to revert to helping him DIY with URLs to get the Radio France radios working, the equivalent to the BBC in the France.
TuneIn is not the right partner for Blusound for the European market, and if Blusound can't sort out their content supply in Europe they should not bother us with their products at all!
I was a fan of Bluesound and still find their hardware rather good, but the services and streaming is far below the bar and what you would expect for a premium priced product. I have stopepd recommending them. For us stuck with pricey investments, we are hoping to get some results, soon I hope.
@Andrew, please update us on the situation

I find it all rather sad, a service that has 23.9 million paying subscribers gets a service that is out done by just about any smart speaker. All I use my node for now is Spotify play back. The free version. Totally disappointed.

Thank you @Alan Shepherd for https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360034454474/comments/35458012503319!

I could understand the BBC’s decision if they just wanted to restrict access to UK Licence Fee payers. We subscribe to all BBC Services including radio irrespective of the method used to listen to their radio stations.
If I had to register with TuneIn thereby confirming I’m a British resident I feel I should be granted access. You don’t even need a licence for radio access any longer so this decision is plain daft.
Hopefully Bluesound will get their act together and come to an agreement with the BBC.

I tried to post in a similar thread earlier, but as a result of repeating @Alan Shepherd's link my posts were quarantined.
The main BBC stations are missing from TuneIn's own website this morning as well, and in response to a recent BluOS update and TuneIn query of mine here, @Tony W. informed me that BluOS is now using a new TuneIn API that is using the TuneIn cloud, so I suspect whatever has happened in BluOS is just reflecting the current status of TuneIn themselves.0 -
Hello Tony W.,
Now that all the other BBC issue threads are closed and redirected to this "answered" thread, could we get an update?
Thank you in advance for your return.

Bluesound closing down threads preventing comments and saying this is 'answered' is wild.

HI Chris - as mentioned, for administrative purposes, we are redirecting everyone to a single thread so we may be able to answer everyone and get the information out as quickly as possible.
Thanks for understanding.

Hi Tony, the thread you are 'directing everyone to a single thread so we may be able to answer everyone' does not appear in first six pages of the list of threads in the 'streaming services' forum. I assume this is because it is marked as 'answered' and therefore new posts do not push it to the top of the forum and 'everyone' has no visibility of it. If this is the case, by closing all other threads you appear to be burying this issue.
Thanks, Chris.

Can we have this post reclassified back to being unanswered - the only way this gets answered is native bbc sounds on bluos. If it was answered it wouldn't have 195 comments at the time of me posting this (6 years on from the original post).

Six years without a resolution must be some sort of record. It either suggests it’s an extremely difficult problem to resolve or it’s sat on the back burner. But with the BBC stations now unavailable you would hope this will become a top priority for Bluesound management.

Honestly, the responses from BlueSound are a bit pathetic. They can say all they like, but the situation is the same as the software I work with that uses third party components. The software developers chose to use them and it is down to them to make sure they work and to liaise with the third party developers to fix issues, not me. Here, BlueSound should be pushing TuneIn, not us. Why should many users push TuneIn when it could be done once?
Also, it took me about 5 minutes to find a workaround. Why didn't BlueSound post that?
My honest opinion is that BlueSound are dodging the issue and don't really care. I would never buy another BlueSound device.

Though an interesting discussion this is of course still a work around for the fact that Bluesound have not integrated BBC Sounds.

I'm confused as to why Andrew H's pinned official "October 2025" response is linking to an article that is talking about a 2019 change by the BBC, which doesn't even mention BluOS or Bluesound. We know that years back the pulling of the streams got reviewed by the BBC after listener and manufacturer pressure for certain systems, hence we have had access on BluOS and other major platforms until today.
This could just be a case of someone at the BBC or TuneIn forgetting to renew a permission, or deleting something in error, but whatever the cause, the fact that competitors have variously full BBC Sounds integration (the holy grail) or functional independently run radio services while Bluesound are reliant on TuneIn's erratic service is surely the key point here.

Can I use BBC Sounds with my Sonos device?
We have released a version of BBC Sounds on the Sonos platform, meaning you’ll be able to listen on your Sonos device via the Sonos S2 controller app.
This means that both iOS and Android users can now get a full, personalised BBC Sounds experience on their Sonos speakers.
To enable BBC Sounds on Sonos, open the Sonos app on your device, then:
- Tap on 'Settings'
- Tap on 'Services and Voice'
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap on 'Add a service'
- Scroll until you find BBC Sounds and tap 'Add'
- Connect your BBC account with your Sonos account
- That's it!
If you need help or more information on registering and using a BBC account, have a look here: Creating & Using a BBC account
With the BBC Sounds experience on Sonos, you can:
- Listen live to all our radio stations, including all local stations in high quality streaming audio
- Quickly access My Sounds, including the latest episodes from shows, podcasts and music mixes that you have subscribed to on Sounds
- Continue Listening to shows, podcasts and music mixes that you started listening to on any device
- Browse the latest music mixes and podcasts
- Enjoy personalised recommendations
- Browse categories
- Search for BBC content using Sonos search
- 'Star' (favourite) certain elements so they appear on your My Sonos homescreen (for example, Listen Live, Continue Listening, Recommended For You)
You can also use Sonos on desktop by installing the Sonos desktop application. Choose 'Select a Music Source,' then 'Add Music Services' to find BBC Sounds.
At the moment, BBC Sounds is available on the Sonos controller app within the UK only.

Good to see that Sonos platform is working with Sounds. My set up that the Node was meant to replace is still working and allowing me to use Sounds fully, Squeezebox/LMS/Lyron I am really considering binning the Node and playing with DACs for my Touch. And as a NAD owner from 1986 and someone that has music on 24/7 it feels bad.

Alan Shepherd's patch works, thank you! I'm very grateful but the lack of BBC Sounds still makes this feel precarious

Hi Alan Shepherd,
Just another thanks from me for the post providing a practical work around for the sudden loss of BBC UK* services from the Bluesound App.
*BBC have, quite annoyingly for me, left me able to pick up The World Service but nothing else.
Alan’s work around which follows works for me:“I've just discovered I can add Radio 4 (and others) as a custom station on TuneIn which helps a bit. Here's a link to all the BBC stations: https://garfnet.org.uk/cms/tables/radio-frequencies/internet-radio-player/bbc-national-and-local-radio-hls-streams/

I can't get the work around to work. Cannot find radio 6.
This, along with lack of track recommendations after an album has played on Amazon music, will mean a soon exit from bluesound for me.0 -
As for 6 Music this link worked for me:

Folks, a bit of an update. We have been formally told this is part of an integrated and internal BBC's program that includes removing BBC sounds as an app available outside of the UK. We are looking at options and will keep you updated as we know more
1 -
Hi Andrew, thanks for the update. As someone who is in the UK, is there a way you can suggest to get in touch with the BBC in order to put pressure on them to make a BBC Sounds app available within BluOS?
1 -
Hi Pad-rock, Thanks for the offer to help. We have been chasing various levels in the bureaucracy for years. If there is a local link for support, posting feedback etc, especially asking for addition of hardware partners that would be helpful. We can post that here and for all of the folks in the UK they could click and offer feedback. I'm also meeting with the SVP of Tunein in a few days to discuss this, as they must have known and didn't share that info
