Show file type, sample rate, bit depth for every song while playing
BeantwortetHi,
In a separate thread I was told there is a context menu item to display this info. It doesn't work for me at all, I don't have the context menu item, so that thread is still open. But Tony also said his impression is users don't want UI clutter.
I don't know who Bluesound customers are and I am sure Tony knows that better than I ever will. But at the same time, the only people I have ever communicated with who do have Bluesound devices are audiophiles like me. We all want to know as much as we can about the audio files we are playing and it is not considered clutter.
Given Tony's impression about what customers want, and given even if the context menu item for Technical Info worked (for me it does not) maybe a good solution would be to have a UI option to show all the details and make the default not to show it.
Even if somebody can get the Technical Info context menu item to work for me, I really don't want to have to take action on every song. I want to see the details as every song plays. To me this is so basic, every DAP does it, all my DACs do it, I can't imagine how it could not be considered important by most people using Bluesound devices.
Having a UI option defaulting to No would give us the best of both worlds. It would give audiophiles the info we want and it would not change the UI for people who don't want clutter.
Thanks.

Hi Tony,
Thank you, but that doesn't help. The info is much too vague to be useful, as I mentioned in the beginning of the other thread.

It is possible to query the API directly by using a web browser on a phone/tablet or desktop. First, find out the IP address of the Bluesound device, this can be obtained from the WiFi router's DHCP lease table in router's admin interface.
Then just visit the web page : http://<ip address of Bluesound>:11000/Status
Look for a line in the returned XML that looks like...
"<streamFormat>FLAC 44100/16/2</streamFormat>"
In the above example, it is playing a CD-quality Flac file.

Thank you Simon, I hope this info was directed at Bluesound! When I buy a device I expect the app to do what I want. This is very reasonable, many people expressed interest in the other thread about this. I should not have to resort to hacks. The API is for the device/app developer, not end-users.

I agree. I discovered the above while trying to scratch the same itch :)
At least it demonstrates that the information is in there somewhere and is easy to implement on the App.
Since the App is only interacting with a REST API, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be open-sourced so we can fix these things ourselves.

I'm almost sure this line of data only gives the category info (the range) and not the actual bitrate. So the icon "CD" which is already present, gives the same info.

I tried it on some Qobuz tracks that just said "HD" and I was able to tell if they were 24/44.1 or 24/96 etc. So, yes it does give some useful info that isn't visible on the UI.
MQA tracks just show as 24/44.1 however.

Can we please get an update on this feature request?
Querying an IP address and decoding XML to find sample rate is a big ask.0
