    Hi MacPapa

We have had great conversations with our development team on this front. It's not really a bug but we do agree it would be great additional functionality though we continue to work around some really difficult fail safe scenarios. Rest assured it is a regular conversation point in product development meetings.

I have thought about it a few times also. But then again, if you add something to your collection, most times you would like to listen immediately and do not wait until after the 03:00 o'clock automatic rebuild.

What would also be an improvement, is to have a rebuild button on the main menu, somewhere easy to reach so you can hit it when the maintenance and additions are finished. The Windows app now requires 3 mouse-clicks. Maybe the development department doesn't want to have the button easy to reach to avoid unwanted rebuilds, but I cannot see the danger in that, since you always can do a full rebuild.

I'd like to second the request to be able to regularly schedule a library index refresh.

    It is very good idea.

Im searching for that option for quite long.

Add my vote for scheduled reindex. I've recently switched to BluOS from Slimserver, and I'm really surprised at some of the features that have been in Slimserver for years & years but which are completely absent from BluOS, such as scheduled reindex.

New user. Ex Sonos. Scheduled re-index seems now to be a 3 year old request. 3 years it seems to be a “great idea”. Is it possible yet ?

Welcome to #LivingHiFi Sully - thanks for the feedback - our Product Development team doesn't have any update on this at this time but they are aware of the feedback for it.

Hi @tony, how about a compromise: Make it so that it doesn't take like 8 taps/clicks to get to the "reindex music library" button, which is currently buried 3 layers deep in the settings menu?

Tony. Are these suggestions polled for new feature inclusion.
3 years seems a long time for an obvious feature like this to be still on the “one day list” given that your competitors have had this for over 10 years.

Oh LOL I just posted about not burying the rebuild button & then I scrolled back & noticed that Frans R made the same suggestion 3 years ago:

It doesn't seem like Bluesound are ever going to take notice of their users on this simple request so I've come up with a workaround.  It's not as elegant as if they did the job properly but it does work and is available now!

To automate the re-index function on Bluesound use a macro recorder - it must be able to produce macros that can be scheduled. There are many available but I chose “Perfect Automation” because it was free and worked! It did have a few quirks though. For example it did not seem to be able to save macros to a folder with a space in the name.  I've created a short video to show how it is done...  https://youtu.be/qsFrODC1NJU

    Hi-Res

Just create a new task in Windows Task Scheduler, "run" browser with "argument"; http://x.x.x.x:11000/Reindex

x.x.x.x is IP address of your player.

Thanks, this sounds a really interesting option I wasn't aware of.  I tried it on my system and I get a 404 error.  Any ideas?

    Sorry, should be http://x.x.x.x:11000/Reindex

That looks the same to me  :)

No, I edited the original post. That post was missing "//"

OK, however I must have also amended my entry just from habit.  I still get a 404 error  :(

...then you have the wrong ip address to your player. Help - Diagnostics should give you the right one.

    My address is like this:

    0
  • Chris Stanbury

    Mine is http://192.168.0.96:11000/reindex

If I leave off the port number and /reindex I can see the player so the IP address must be OK

Do I need a firewall rule?

    Hi-Res

No firewall rule needed. reindex is case sensitive, so you will have to use Reindex

Now I get a message saying "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." and showing <indexing>1</indexing>

Does that just mean it's done the reindexing or is there another issue?

    It's indexing.
Settings - Music library will show you what it's doing.

Yes, it seems to be working.  Fantastic, thank you.

However, it would still be good to add it into the program please.  It really can't be that difficult.

Thanks, this was helpful. I was able to schedule this command:

    curl http://x.x.x.x:11000/Reindex

    on macOS to do this.

I am curious how you knew this would work, I could not find any documentation online regarding this. Is it documented somewhere I missed?

    Thanks again.

Figured it out one time I was looking in the log file.

I strongly support the idea of a scheduled and automated reindex.

This is the answer of the BlueOS Support Crew (Feb 22, 2024 ) on this long-time issue.

Yes this is something we have discussed as being a handy feature here in office.
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of us implementing a feature like this just yet,

"This being said, please understand that no version of the app is the final
version and we are always working to improve the experience based on customer feedback. The app itself is always being worked on and updated.

Rest assured that we will be taking this purposed request and will be forwarding
this request to our Quality Assurance Team as well as the BluOS Development Lab for their consideration for a future update."

Here is a use case for a scheduled index rebuild: Every night I have a job that generate 30 random playlists from my album, and they are what I will play the next day. (OK, not all 30, but a selection.) The playlists needs to be added to the library and the old ones removed. This works perfectly today of the simple reason I am a Sonos user.

But a combination that I needed to replace to players anyway and Sonos's release of their new app prompted me to try out Bluesound. And I can tell from the discussions in the Sonos forums I am not alone. So there is an argument for Bluesound to add this to their system: there is a window of opportunity of take customers from Sonos.

I have not tried the URL tip from Bjørn yet, but I would expect that to work. Big thanks for sharing it!

:-) I wanted to test the Reindex URL, but I forgot I disconnected my server 2 years ago and am mainly listening to Tidal now. Because Tidal Connect is not as perfect as Spotify Connect on Bluos, I will brush up the old server and give it a try.

I ran into a snag with the scheduled reindex due how to I produce my playlist, so I would like schedule a full index rebuild rather than a reindex. What would the URL be in this case? Alternatively, where I do find this log file that Bjørn had been looking in?
