Flex 2i can't handle bass when rubber backing removed to mount on stands

I just filed a ticket on this, but am curious if other issues are having these issues.

I have my rear Flex 2i speakers mounted on Vebos stands. To do this I had to remove the rubber covers to screw the speaker to the mount using the provided mount hole on the rear of the speaker. I consistently have issues with the rear speakers making rattling noises as if the speaker can't handle the low end. This happens when watching movies in surround. Or when listening to music on the speakers. I have another Flex 2i, that I do not use for surround and is not mounted, the rubber backing cover is still installed, and I have not notices a similar low end issue.

I suspect this is because removing the rubber backing to mount the speaker does not allow the sound in the speaker to flow as designed, causing lower frequencies to come out the back of the speaker. But then why is there an option to remove the backing to mount the speaker?

I also have to wonder if a cutoff is being engaged on the rear speakers the way one would expect when using a subwoofer, the way the soundbar works.

If absolutely necessary, I own very good recording equipment and could provide a recording sample of this issues with details on the streaming media I that is playing when the issue occurs.
