Bluetooth Pairing iPad and Vault 2i

I am trying to pair the 2 devices with no success.  My iPad can "see" the Vault 2i but all pairing attempts fail.  It just tells me to make sure the device is on and within range.  They are about 4 feet apart.

The only info on the help site is about 6 years old.
