Browsing local music broken in integration API

I have a bunch of automations which stopped working with a recent(ish) player firmware update. It seems that the browse system works all the way to querying the actual list of songs (or albums, artists, etc) at which point it returns no data. E.g. following the browse hierarchy to get to a list of songs:

With the earlier player firmware, that last <browse></browse> would have a whole bunch of <item> entries listing the songs. Now it contains nothing at all.
