Improving Bluesound BluOS Indexing: A User's Suggestions
BeantwortetImproving Bluesound BluOS Indexing: A User's Suggestions
Hello Bluesound,
I'm writing to suggest some improvements to the BluOS user interface and indexing algorithm. As a user, I've found a couple of areas that could significantly enhance the experience, particularly when adding new music.
1. Improve the Indexing User Interface
Currently, when I plug in a new SSD with music, BluOS starts indexing in the background. The only way to see the progress is by navigating deep into the settings under the Music Library. This is not intuitive, and the lack of immediate feedback can be confusing. The main screen doesn't show the new device or any indexing status, which can make users think their SSD isn't being read at all.
I would suggest making the indexing progress more visible. This could be done in a few ways:
-
A temporary pop-up window or a notification on the title bar that shows the current indexing status when a new drive is detected.
-
A progress indicator on the main home screen, perhaps next to the new device icon, that shows it's been detected and is currently indexing.
This would reassure users that the drive has been recognized and that their music is on its way to being added to the library.
2. Enhance the Indexing Algorithm
The current indexing algorithm seems to require a full re-scan of the entire library even when only a small number of new files are added. This can be time-consuming and inefficient, especially for users with large music collections.
It would be a great improvement if you could implement a more progressive or incremental indexing algorithm. This would allow BluOS to only scan for and index new or changed files, rather than re-indexing everything each time. This change would dramatically improve the user experience by making the process much faster and more seamless.
3. Give Users Control Over Indexing
Finally, it would be a huge benefit to give users the option to disable indexing altogether. Many users, like myself, manage their music through a folder-based directory structure. For us, browsing music by folder is the preferred method, and a full index is unnecessary. By allowing us to choose whether or not to index our music, you would be providing a more flexible and user-friendly experience that accommodates different listening habits.
Thank you for considering these suggestions. I believe these changes would make a big difference in the user experience of BluOS.
Sincerely,
A dedicated user
