Pre Purchase Question
BeantwortetLooking to purchase the Bluesound Node (2024)
Main use is to stream hi-res content from Presto Music. seems this ticks the box.
I also have a large collection of ripped flac files collected over many years of CD purchase and currently stored on an external 4TB USB SSD drive, currently NSFS but I can reformat to FAT32 as I see this is needed for the Node.
I read elsewhere that the server option for external drives can be turned off , which should disable the indexing.. I assume that the file system will then be available to view using BlueOS app without huge waiting time for the app to index or check anything.
Please let me know if there is any downside to doing things this way
Thankyou
Alan

Server mode is best but better still would be a NAS especially with a large amount of music. Without server mode enabled the USB drive is treated as temporary so the index gets discarded if the BluOS device is rebooted, powered down or the drive removed.
In either mode an index is created, this is stored on the player and not the drive.
These support documents are worth a read as they explain the differences and “how to”

If your prime interest is classical, I would think twice.
The current version of the Android BluOS controller app is nearly unusable for classical and has been so for eleven months. BluOS does not seem interested in fixing it. They generally seem not interested, if only a minority of users reports an issue.
Another issue affecting especially classical took eight months to get fixed.

Thank you for the replies. I have to say after becoming excited about the Node I'm not so excited after reading your comments.
It's pretty difficult to find streamers that support Presto Music. I could continue to do it as I do now which is laptop - usb out to FIOO headphone DAC - aux input on my amplifier. Works but is messy.and ties up my laptop,
As anything BLUOS seems to be not what I am looking for now, the Eversolo range seems to be more that I need, especially with the 4TB SSD that can be added for file storage.
Thanks for your help

Presto streaming is only two years old. One of the few music services that does not support Google Cast / Chromecast. That all contributes to limited hardware support.
Tried Presto some time ago, prefer Idagio. Obvious advantage of Presto is they also have jazz.
Chinese Eversolo seems full of features, but would not expect to be the best sonically.
