Personally I avoid network connections back to a computer or NAS.  In my experience, the best sound quality is achieved with a USB stick or SSD connected to the USB input on the node.  Further, I get the best functiionality and sound quality with AIF format (uncompressed audio).   I would avoid WAV files as they do not support metadata.   AIF fully supports metadata so it all is organized perfectly.

In summary, uncompressed audio in AIF format for metadata support connected to the USB input on Node.

  • But if I want to regularly add music to the disc, isn't it more convenient if the hard drive hangs in a network? In another post I asked a similar question. I found out that ALAC files only sound good when Replay-gain is disabled in the audio settings. Then I hear no difference with a FLAC or AIFF file.
