When to Rebuild vs. Re-Index
BeantwortetHi, anyone know why you have to completely rebuild the index when just deleting and adding m3u playlists? Surely a re-index should cope with this? I have Soundbars and Pulse Flex's and use the MacOS app and my music resides on a NAS. Thanks.

I tend to reindex when adding new albums but any deleting or changes such as metadata / artwork I run a rebuild index. My library (metadata wise) and ripping process is in great shape so hardly ever need to run the rebuild.

Never use m3u playlists, but I make changes to my library regularly, several times per month. Always perform reindex as this is way faster and in most cases works fine. Only when I see oddities after a reindex, I will consider a rebuild. But only after first clearing the cache of the app I am using, as the cache can prevent properly showing the results of the reindex.

It would be nice if adding and changing m3u playlists would be picked up by reindexing. I don't use them now just because they need a complete rebuild. I guess the original question asks why this is so, and this has not been answered.

Thanks for coming back. Thanks Joris, exactly. I add and remove tracks to my M3U playlists and find I have to rebuild every time rather than re-index. As you say, don't understand why this is so? Maybe Bluesound can clarify?

I use .m3u extensively (windows app) and never noticed discrepancies after a reindex to update.
Only to remove .m3u a full rebuild index is needed.

Thanks Alain. Agreed. Not technically sure of the difference but surprised when removing M3U's a rebuild is required which takes a long time. Surely, adding, removing and amending M3U's should be taken care of by a reindex?
