Historically to share an external drive connected to your Mac then it has to be either  Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or HFS+. So if you have your music on an external drive then that drive has to be using a legacy format otherwise it looks like it shares but just does not, this has been an issue for years but no idea if Apple have changed anything recently. You could test by formatting a memory stick in various formats and see if you can share it ok, even if it’s just one track for testing.

Thank you so much for the quick reply Seppi. It was formatted in APFS. I’m on and I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again.

The Mac Mini’s NVMe SSD can only be formatted in APFS (4 different options available but no Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or HFS+). New MacOS only does APFS as faster with SSDs. Waiting on a USB C to USB A adapter to connect NVMe to an older Mac to see if I can format it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or HFS+.

Are BluSound working on a solution to this? If new Macs are only formatting in APFS then BluOS is not going to work for a lot of people.

As mentioned I don’t know if Apple have fixed this or not, best to contact t support directly. Trying a memory stick would have been a simpler option, my memory card reader would let me mount an SD card and that would make it an external drive.

In the BluOS App please select Settings, Send Support Request, so the Bluesound Support Crew can review the log file and take a closer look.

Have sent a ticket already. Do you think it is something that Apple need to fix at their end? I did try a FAT formatted thumb drive in the back of the Nano and that was fine. May try the entire library on an external HD but NAS is my preferred option.

    Thanks for your help Seppi.

If it’s still an issue with the low level format types I doubt Apple will fix it now, it had been like it over ten years now but I have not tested for a few years. I did see mention of this fairly recently on another forum.

A standalone NAS which can be bought very cheaply as a refurbished device from WD or any any new NAS would be the preferred option, next would be be using the USB port on the NANO followed by using a computer share.

So I have done some reading and rather than reformat (required option not available) I partitioned the the drive and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) was available!

Still didn’t share the File. I must be doing something basic wrong. It cannot be this difficult? People wouldn’t buy the brand if it didn’t work.
