Node ICON volume gain options

In my setup it would be nice if I could pass audio through without any gain control through the balanced outputs to my audio preamp, but control the unbalanced outputs to the "front channel" inputs on my amp for the theater sound, so I can add surround speakers for theater use. I haven't found any discussion of volume control options in any documentation, so I thought I'd ask here.

  Thanks, but I wondered if I could have fixed on one and variable on the other?

  I would love this feature as well; I expected this to be an option out of the box.

  In my case, I have a speaker amp that does not have a volume control; so I use the RCA outputs for this amp. I have another amp that does have a volume control and supports balanced inputs; I'd like to send a fixed signal to this amplifier and control the volume on the amplifier.
