No sound ps3 to tv to node

Apple tv hdmi cable to sony tv, then optical out from tv to node x works great (apple tv can detect the node x and i select it). to watch blu-ray’s i use a ps3. ps3 hdmi cable to tv, then optical from tv to node x and no sound. i’ve selected “audio system” instead of tv speakers on ps3 and still no luck. any advice?

  found a solution: earc hdmi out from tv to node worked

  Both are set to pcm. Why could sound not travel from the tv to the bluesound via the optical? is there another blu-ray player that would work (i’ve read sony has issues with bluesound), or would i need one with two hdmi outs, so one can go to tv for video and one to the node to audio? has anyone gotten a bluray to work with the node? and if so, how?

  thanks for trying to help. ps3 set to pcm and speakers set to audio system instead of tv speakers. tv set to pass through mode and digital audio out to pcm… still no sound. read other threads here with sony issues. i may need to buy a proper cd player and see if it works. has anyone here used the node to do audio from their bluray/tv set up and have it work?
