Tony, any updates on whether or not the upcoming release of Blue OS 4 will include FLAC high res support for TIDALconnect?

Interesting: According to Bluesound, Tidal is their „Premier Partner“. And according to Tidal, Bluesound is one of their „selected partners to implement HiRes Streaming“. And yet, both parties fail to deliver HiRes music to the customer. Disappointing.

Received an email recently, stating that tomorrow (Oct 17) is the day BlueOS 4 comes out.

Have no idea if this will actually resolve this problem.

It looks like we will still have to wait for Tidal to update Tidal Connect with lossless high resolution FLAC support. Tidal’s most recent statement is that they will complete the change and testing by the end of this year.

I believe in ears, the FLAC format sounds really great with 192Khz and 24 bit.  Its working in both iOS and Windows.  I believe MQA is tricky even claim 24/96. It would be behind for any hifi product without that support. Hope for the best for the upcomiung BlueOS 4

We have been working closely with Tidal to implement the "new-to-them" high resolution FLAC for both the integration and Connect.  It is soon'ish...

Thanks for the update, Andrew. The new BluOS firmware updated flawlessly this morning. Looking forward to the application update coming available, hopefully later today.

Android is about 35%, Apple is still 1% per their process until tomorrow lol. Appreciate the feedback

My 4.0 seems to work fine. Quick upd on mobile (few sec) and less than 10 min on the Bluesound Node.

Some of those folks are based on the staged rollout and they don't understand, as the release requires both sides (BluOS/App) to have the update then they wait.  I do see messages about being told to uninstall and reinstall and I'm thinking that may be phone related.

I went through the 2 step process, starting with BluOS 4 firmware and then Controller App update on IOS. It was a smooth experience and the app update was surprisingly fast. A slick and well thought out app experience: My favourites so far are being able to see music sample rates, a persistent navigation menu at the bottom, and all the key information you need on the Home tab. Well done!!!

I successfully updated the BluOS Android app and firmware to version 4.0 yesterday. The new design looks great, and everything is clear. However, the Tidal issue is still not resolved. When I stream a 192/24 HiRes FLAC file from Tidal (e.g., the album "Turn Up The Quiet" by Diana Krall), the Node streamer converts it to MQA. When will this be fixed?

@Seppi Evans Thank you for your clarification. We will continue to use Deezer Premium, a lossless 16/44.1 kHz stream without MQA artifacts until Tidal and BluOS resolve the issue.

@Bane, the good news is that Tidal released an update yesterday to enable full resolution FLAC for Google Chromecast. This must mean that their update to Tidal Connect is even more ‘soonish’ as stated by @Andrew H above from Bluesound. Many of us share your frustration with Tidal in moving to high res. FLAC without doing the work to enable it for their loyal and premium paying customers that use Tidal Connect. It’s been months now.

There was an update to my bluos player today, maybe it now supports flag ?
Btw. the new bluos design wasnt it suppose to show the bitrate of a song also ? I dont see this anywhere.

Another problem, I have a USB haddrive connected with a lot of music on, but with this new design I can't find any access to the drive anymore, I don't see it anywhere. I just checked on my ipad where I still have the old bluos app and dont see it here either, might have gone after I updated my bluesound node 2i today, there was a message that was poping up when it was updating saying something about indexing the music on the usb drive, but that should be done by now so it's strange that it doesnt show the drive. Will try unplug the drive and then re-plugin.

For Tidal's preferences for high res and MQA there is a chart that shows the various responses.  Lenbrook is committed to supporting MQA and working together with Tidal to ensure that we can create even more visibility to MQA over time.  In the meantime we are working very closely with the folks at Tidal to be able to launch "new-to-Tidal" high res FLAC to both the integration and the connect model, timing is soon'ish.

    @Tony W.

Hi thx for the link, I found it now under the library section and under folders, it was right under my network folders with the name NODE 2i and then a number, just didnt say USB as name like before, but now I know where to find it. Also my network folders now seems to work again, I had some problems with them a while back, couldnt get it to work but all good now. The music I have in the network folders is the same as the music I have on my USB drive, the network folders are a bit easier to use when adding new music, I dont have to unplug and put the music over like I have to with the USB drive, I just have to press reindex to make it recognice the new music I added.

@Tony W and @Andrew H, I am personally looking forward to hearing for myself the differences between high res. FLAC and MQA, given that MQA employs science like psychoacoustics and purports to addresses time domain and other issues in the entire signal chain to faithfully render the vision of the artist and sound engineers. I am not alone in liking how MQA files sound and congratulate you all on the acquisition.

I fully second what @M just said. I’m also happy to get more high res music available with the introduction of FLAC, but I’m also very happy with the continued investment in MQA as it’s a very interesting technology that tried to correct the loss of analogue information that happens during digital sampling of analogue signals. Also, very happy with how responsive Bluesound has been to community feedback on these topics.

    @ Tony W.

Not sure if this is possible, or if this is the best place to raise it, but is there any chance that BluOS could access Tidal's Discovery and Suggestion options? Or there new recommnded playlists? If that could happen, there would be no need for me to use Tidal Connect at all.

    Just throwing it out there.

Thanks @M and @Andrew H for the helpful information. I can listen to Tidal via USB directly to an external DAC to get all of the mentioned Hi-Res formats, FLAC and MQA. I look forward to seeing this capability added to the Bluesound Node streamer through both the Tidal Connect app and the BluOS app to listen to Hi-Res FLAC.

Indeed looking forward to HiRes FLAC but also realise that Lenbrook is continuing to invest in MQA so there must be a value.

With all the challenges of the Tidal Connect link to BluOS, it is a delightment to see how the BluOS app is developing.

BluOS 4 doesn’t resolve any problem or make music sound better.
