Subwoofer Connection-Node 2i

Is it better to have the subwoofer connected to the receiver or directly to the node 2i. Currently the node 2i is connected directly to my receiver through the two RCA inputs and the subwoofer is connected to the receiver.

  You should keep it as it is, because you are probably controlling the volume with your receiver, and not your Node2i.
  Node2i should in your case have "output level - fixed in "Settings - Player - Audio".

  Should I use the 2 rca inputs or an optical input when connecting the Node 2i to the receiver.

  Using optical you are bypassing the internal dac, so it boils down to which dac sounds best, receiver or Bluesound.
  
  Your ears should be the judge.
