Sharing from Windows fails

I have my device connected to the same network as my computer. I have tried to share a network share and a local share on the Windows application. I tried to share a folder from the Windows My music folder, a folder on the C drive, a folder on a disk connected to the player, an external disk connected to my computer, and nothing works. How difficult can this be? I have worked with computers for 25 years, but I cannot find the solution.
